The Complete Guide to Cashmere Sweater Care: Keep Your Knits Looking New

Essential tips for washing, storing, and maintaining your cashmere sweaters to ensure they last for years.

Cashmere is a luxurious natural fiber that requires proper care to maintain its softness and shape. With the right care routine, your cashmere sweaters can last for decades.

Washing Cashmere

Always check the care label first, but most cashmere benefits from hand washing. Fill a basin with cool or lukewarm water and add a small amount of cashmere-specific detergent or a mild baby shampoo. Submerge the sweater and gently squeeze — never wring or twist. Rinse thoroughly in cool water.

If using a washing machine, place the sweater in a mesh laundry bag and use the delicate or wool cycle with cold water.

Drying Cashmere

Never put cashmere in the dryer. Instead, roll the sweater in a clean towel to remove excess water, then lay it flat on a drying rack away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Reshape the garment while it is damp.

Dealing with Pilling

Pilling is natural for cashmere, especially in areas of friction. Use a cashmere comb or fabric shaver to gently remove pills. This restores the garment's smooth appearance without damaging the fibers.

Storing Cashmere

Fold cashmere sweaters rather than hanging them, as hanging can cause stretching. Store in a cool, dry place with cedar balls or lavender sachets to repel moths — the natural enemy of cashmere. Avoid using naphthalene mothballs, which leave a strong chemical odor.

How Often to Wash

Cashmere does not need washing after every wear. Air out your sweater between wears, and wash only when visibly soiled or after several wears. This preserves the natural oils in the fibers and extends the life of the garment.

By following these simple care guidelines, your LINFAIR cashmere sweaters will remain soft, beautiful, and cozy for many seasons to come.
